The Basics
TIDC is currently funded through general revenue-dedicated (GR-D). GR-D accounts are subaccounts within Texas's general revenue fund that are used for collecting deposits from a specific source and dedicated for a particular purpose.
TIDC's GR-D is collected in the Fair Defense Account (Fund 5073). Fund 5073 is funded primarily from court costs paid by criminal defendants. TIDC expends the funds to sustain and improve Texas indigent defense. TIDC received no general revenue in the FY22-23 biennium.
