What We Do

TIDC safeguards liberty by ensuring that Texas and its 254 counties provide the right to counsel guaranteed by the United States and Texas Constitutions. 

TIDC's work takes three main forms: funding, oversight, and improvement.

Funding

TIDC funds public defense in each of Texas’s 254 counties. TIDC also funds 6 innocence projects.

Oversight

TIDC monitors indigent defense in all 254 counties through data collection and in-person audits.

Improvement

TIDC improves indigent defense through system building, training, mentoring, model forms, and publications.
