Public defense under Operation Lone Star is being provided by a combination of public defender offices and private attorneys:
Private Attorneys
The list of private attorneys qualified to accept Operation Lone Star cases is maintained by Lone Star Defenders (LSO) (Lubbock Private Defender's Office until December 2023). The OLS attorney list was developed by TIDC and LSO pursuant to Texas Supreme Court Order 21-9104 and its renewed Order 24-9100. To apply to serve on this list, or for more detail, please visit LSO's website.
Public Defender Offices
Public defender offices can apply to provide Operation Lone Star defense services through a competitive process. Multiple public defender offices are needed, and the need may fluctuate, depending on the number of OLS arrests. To review the request for proposals (RFP), apply to serve as an OLS public defender office, or to learn more, please visit Lone Star Defenders (Lubbock Private Defender's Office until December 2023).
